Description

Our “Lost Barrel” Pinot Noir is perhaps one of the most interesting wines we’ve ever made.  This bottle contains a field blend of our 2017 harvest Dijon and Pommard clones.  Vinified in the same style as the Oregon Pinot Noir but with a very unique aging process.  After 12 months in barrel, this wine was transferred to stainless steel casks.  The casks were then loaded aboard the tall ship “Bill of Rights,” anchored in the San Diego Harbor.  For five months this historic sailing ship hosted our wines onboard.  The wine accompanied the ship as it sailed from Port of Call to Port of Call, gently aging with every sway of the ship and rise of the tide.  Rumor has it, that a few of the casks fell overboard and into the cool waters of the Pacific Ocean where they were allowed to age for several months.  While immersed, the ebbs and flows of the tides, the oceanic pressures, and constant temperatures worked their magic on the wine.  The resulting wine is nothing short of extraordinary!  The wine is vibrant in color with expressive red fruit flavors of black cherry, cranberry, and pomegranate. The wine is accented with hints of honey and vanilla, and has a soft tannic finish.
